Signs of life in the universe
Spring traditionally finds scholars
of note making campus visits. March will arrive like a lion
at IUB, with WTC memorial site architect Daniel
Libeskind; medical sociologist Bronwen
Lichtenstein; SETI research director Jill
Tarter, bioethicist LeRoy
Walters; and Stanford mathematician Persi
Diaconis making public presentations.
High flier
Dennis Reardon’s 13th play will
premiere tonight. And the head of IUB’s graduate playwriting
program, a baby boomer, had to look back at some painful historical
notes from his youth as the play began to take shape. "It
forced me to reconnect emphatically with things like the Kennedy
assassination, which, in fact, was my generation's 9/11,"
he said.
Updates: I-Light and SIS
A symposium March 9 at IUPUI will
focus on the Hoosier I-Light
Optical Fiber Infrastructure, soon to be upgraded with
the addition of I-Light2, linking more educational institutions
to one another and to the Internet2 research and education
network. In other computer news, the university-wide Student
Information System will implement another phase March
1.
