Lawrence Kuznar, IPFW professor of anthropology, is the Arts and Sciences Spring 2005 Distinguished Lecturer. He will present, “Poverty is Not Enough: The Role Wealth Distributions Play in Ethnic Conflict, Rebellion and Warfare,” Wednesday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Classroom Medical Building, Room 159, on the Fort Wayne campus.
Kuznar’s research interests span a number of areas of anthropology: he has specialized in the study of traditional herding societies; and, methodologically, he has done mathematical analysis and computer simulation for testing anthropological theories. His theoretical interests include the ecology of herding and the determinants of collective violence. He is currently collaborating with William Frederick, associate professor of mathematics at IPFW, and Robert Sedlmeyer, associate professor of computer science at IPFW, on research that combines anthropological and economic research with mathematical modeling and computer simulation to understand the emergence of terrorism. Kuznar is also the director of IPFW’s Institute for Decision Sciences and Theory.
