Some languages, just as some species, are endangered by rapid growth. And while road construction may lead to the demise of a local ecosystem, modernity and its inherent growth threaten rare tongues; that highway known as the Internet may be a major culprit. Researchers speculate that 90 percent of the world’s languages will be extinct within the next century.
