Days of the locust?

Hoosiers generally call them “the 17-year locusts,” and both American folklore and biblical reference contain stories of those pesky periodical cicadas which are due to re-emerge this summer in their multitudinous way.

The Cicada Project at IU is soliciting Bloomington-area reports from the last emergence of the Cycle X critters—in the summer of 1987.

IU Home Pages would like to hear your stories from past emergences as well, to include in a feature that will appear in May.

No matter what decade, no matter where you might have been when the chirping started or the shells began to drop from the trees, E-mail us your stories: homepgs@indiana.edu
