The IU Bloomington community suffered a tremendous loss with the death of IU junior Ashley Crouse, who was killed in a car accident at the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue and Third Street in Bloomington on April 11.
To honor her memory, the IUB Department of Spanish and Portuguese has initiated an annual memorial scholarship. The award will recognize students who not only embody Crouse’s interest in the study of Spanish, but also her generous spirit and her enthusiasm for campus involvement. The fund-raising is being conducted largely by Crouse’s Spanish linguistics classmates and has benefited from small contributions from many individual donors.
Crouse was a double major in Spanish and political science and was a student in the LAMP (Liberal Arts and Management Program). She participated in the IU High School Honors program in Valencia, Spain, while she was a student at Carmel High School, and last summer, she studied in Cuernavaca, Mexico. She was involved in many campus activities, including Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and IU Dance Marathon, which raises funds for Riley Hospital.
