| Shiffrin |
Richard Shiffrin, Distinguished Professor, Waterman Professor of psychology and director of the Cognitive Science Program, has been elected to the prestigious American Philosophical Society (APS), the fifth member of the IU faculty to be honored by membership in the country's first learned society. Previous IU honorees are the late geneticist Marcus Rhoades (1962), the late Herman B Wells (1964), the School of Medicine's Dr. Lawrence Einhorn (2001) and Fedwa Malti-Douglas, Kraft Professor of humanities (2004).
The APS was founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1743 and recognizes achievements in five classes of academic disciplines: mathematical and physical sciences; biological sciences; social sciences; humanities; and the arts, professions, and public and private affairs. Shiffrin was among nine inductees from the social sciences. Presently, there are more than 700 members throughout the world, though 85 percent of the membership resides in the United States. In the course of the 20th century, more than 200 have received the Nobel Prize.
Last year, Shiffrin received a Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award from the American Psychological Association. Read more about his work at this Web site:

Joyce Splann Krothe, director of the nursing baccalaureate program, is the 2005 Distinguished Service Award winner from the IU School of Nursing. The award is presented to an alumna/alumnus of the IU School of Nursing who has made significant volunteer and/or service contributions. Krothe was cited for establishing access to health-care services for uninsured residents in Brown County.
In 1996, Krothe received initial funding from the Indiana State Department of Health to establish the Brown County Health Support Clinic, a nurse-managed clinic. Since then, she has received funding in excess of $1 million to provide a wide range of health promotion, health education and disease prevention services to the community. The clinic also serves as a clinical service-learning setting for nursing students in rural health and nurse-managed care.

| Lindeman |
Art Lindeman has been named associate vice president and director of Student Enrollment Services. The appointment begins June 1 and is subject to the approval of the IU Board of Trustees. Lindeman will report to Ken Gros Louis, senior vice president for academic affairs and chancellor for the Bloomington campus.
"Art has been the transitional director and has done a splendid job in collating the report of external consultants and then working with one of them to come up with a plan that provides robust student services in a centralized manner, but also gives significant responsibilities to each campus," Gros Louis said. "This seems to me to be the ideal mix between centralization and decentralization while maintaining a high level of student services."
Student Enrollment Services (SES) was created as part of the Student Information System (SIS), which was completed prior to the start of the fall semester. SIS is the most recent component of the university's efforts to modernize all of its administrative and enterprise resource planning systems. The SIS project provided new PeopleSoft systems for academic advisers, admissions, bursars, financial aid and student records on all IU campuses.
"Now, SES will bring campus executives, business analysts and system analysts together to interact on the core student service activities now in place with the new Student Information System," Lindeman said. "With SIS now in place, the SES organization enters a new phase and is being developed to coordinate the overall planning and management for the new system."
Lindeman has served as assistant vice president for financial management services, which is the university's central accounting, contract and grant administration, and payroll department since 1990. He also directed the development of the university's financial information system in the mid-1990s after joining the university in 1981.
He replaces Don Hossler of the Bloomington campus and Becky Porter of IUPUI, who served Student Enrollment Services during the university's installation of the Student Information System.
