| The IPFW Department of Fine Arts is sponsoring Garden Story...Oil and Mixed Media Paintings, by Mee Kyung Shim, in the Visual Arts Gallery beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2, and running through Oct. 10. Garden Story is a tale of visual intricacy, that weaves together two very different cultures, merging Eastern and Western thought.
Born in Suwon City, near Seoul, Shim's upbringing was steeped in classical Korean culture, including Buddhism, Taoism and Shamanism, elements which figure prominently in her recent work. As part of the first post-war, industrial generation of South Koreans, she benefited from educational and cultural opportunities not previously afforded to women. She is often asked to talk about Korean and American life.
The Visual Arts Gallery is located in the lobby of the Visual Arts Building on the North campus of IPFW. The exhibition can be viewed daily in the gallery from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
