Bloomington's Tenth Street, Fee Lane to be ready for influx
Bloomington’s Tenth Street, a main artery through the IUB campus that has undergone construction all summer, will be open for through traffic Aug. 20. Fee Lane north of Tenth Street will be reopened to vehicles and pedestrians Aug. 22 following a summer of construction work at the Kelley School of Business.

Introducing new and returning students to the opportunities inherent on IU’s campuses is often the stuff of kiosks, booths and festivals in late August and early September. Among those informational ventures is IUB’s CutureFest, scheduled Thursday (Aug. 23). The event begins at 4:30 p.m. at the IU Auditorium with a brief video of the history and culture of the campus plus featured speaker Kevin Powell, an original cast member of The Real World. He will present a challenge to the freshman class regarding culture, diversity and involvement. Following the speakers, students will take part in an outdoor festival, complete with food and music from different cultures.

Alma mater
In 1937, the class of 1935 presented the university with a gift from the pen of composer and IU alumnus Hoagy Carmichael. Proposed as an alma mater for many years, the musical gift, titled Chimes of Indiana, was adopted by the IU Alumni Association as an official alma mater, alongside Hail to Old I.U., in 1978.
