| The Universal Bus Pass—or U-Pass—program is expanding to include more pre-paid services during its second phase, which goes into effect Monday, Aug. 27. Along with the pre-paid access to all Bloomington Transit routes for Indiana University students, there will now be pre-paid access to one of Campus Bus’ most popular routes, the Stadium Express, as well as the Campus Bus Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC) route. The Late Night Shuttle, which runs from 10:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. every Thursday, Friday and Saturday (when classes are in session during the fall and spring semesters) is also pre-paid access. For all pre-paid access, IU students simply show their CampusAccess student ID card to the bus driver.
This summer the IU Board of Trustees adopted a transportation fee that funds the program. The transportation fee also supports a reduced-price Campus Bus pass. The expansion marks the second phase of the program toward an ultimate goal of universal use of the CampusAccess student ID card as a pass on both systems.
The Campus Bus Stadium Express Route runs from Memorial Stadium’s White Lot to the bus shelter in front of the Indiana Memorial Union. Primarily a commuter route, it provides an excellent way for students to park their cars and ride to the heart of campus. Over the years, the Stadium Express has proven to be one of the most popular Campus Bus routes. The Campus Bus SRSC Route runs from the White Lot to the SRSC via the North Jordan Avenue extension and returns to Memorial Stadium by Fee Lane.
The second phase of the U-Pass program, which begins Aug. 27, includes the following features:
• All Bloomington Transit service is pre-paid; IU students will use their CampusAccess student ID card as a pass.
• Campus Bus will operate a pre-paid route from the White Lot (located on the west side of Memorial Stadium) to the SRSC from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday. IU students will use their CampusAccess student ID card as a pass.
• The Campus Bus Stadium Express is pre-paid. Buses will run every five minutes between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. from the park-and-ride at the stadium’s White Lot to the Indiana Memorial Union. Stadium Express buses will operate until midnight on days classes are in session.
• IU students can ride the "C" Route as operated by Bloomington Transit upon presentation of their student ID card. The "C" Route provides service to Eigenmann Hall, Tulip Tree Apartments, University Commons, Eton Mews and The Woods at Lattimer apartment complexes, as well as College Mall.
• The Late Night Shuttle will be operated from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
• BT Route 6 will continue to have late-night service until 12:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, as well as Sunday service from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
• BT Route 1 South Walnut Street/Willow Manor frequency will continue to be every 30 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• An additional bus has been added to the Campus Bus "B" Route.
• The transportation fee also supports a reduced-price Campus Bus pass. Campus Bus cash fares remain 75 cents.
