New informatics minor to be offered at IU South Bend campus

Beginning this fall, IU South Bend will offer a minor in informatics. Informatics is the study and application of information technology. The minor will address the needs of students seeking a broad understanding of information technology, its social and psychological dimensions and its application to other disciplines.

Informatics is distinct from other fields such as computer science and information science. The minor will consist of five courses, three lower level and two upper level electives in informatics and/or the student’s major field. The lower level courses come from a list that includes introduction to informatics, social informatics and informational infrastructure.
