| J. Terry Clapacs, IU vice president for administration, recently announced organizational and personnel changes made over the past summer in four university and/or Bloomington departments. “These changes are important,” he said, “because they have been made in key areas, and they affect many people at Indiana University.”
The biggest change, said Clapacs, is that Human Resources in Bloomington and the University Benefits Programs office have been combined as University Human Resource Services (UHRS). This merger of the two closely related areas of personnel management will enable the university to provide better and more convenient services to its employees.
Daniel Rives has been named interim assistant vice president of the new office. He had served as university director of benefits programs for IU since 1991 after coming to Bloomington from the private sector. He will continue to administer the benefits programs and additionally assumes the responsibilities once held by Andy Heck in Human Resources. Heck, who was assistant vice president of human resources, recently left IU to become vice president of human resources at Tulane University.
Also, Hank Hewetson has become interim director of the IU Bloomington Physical Plant. A mechanical engineer at IU since 1982, he had most recently served as associate director of the Physical Plant since 1997. He replaces Gary Kent, who left IU for the private sector.
James L. Kennedy, who has been assistant to the vice president for administration since 2000, is now university director of security and chief of police of the IU Police Department in Bloomington. Formerly chief of the Bloomington police department from 1996-2000, Kennedy is also an adjunct professor in criminal justice at IUB. He replaces Paul Norris, who is now chief of police at the University of Virginia.
Also, Paul Sullivan was named deputy vice president for administration. Sullivan most recently was special assistant to the vice president for administration. He has served in numerous positions at IU since coming to the university in 1980.
“All of these changes will enhance the administrative mission
at Indiana University,” said Clapacs."“Each individual in these
positions is very capable and experienced, and will serve IU in
the best possible way."
