New Albany campus receives women’s Baroque music archive

IU Southeast has become the repository for one of the world’s most important collections of music written by women.

Ars Femina, an ensemble dedicated to resurrecting and performing Baroque music written by women, has turned over its collection of music, manuscripts and information about women’s music. The group also was designated IUS’ first-ever artists in residence t his summer.

Research by Ars Femina members has been conducted in 15 countries over the past decade. They have discovered 1,500 women who lived and composed between the 12th and 19th centuries.
