Subway guy?

By Jayne Spencer

Jared Fogle

Jared Fogle of Indianapolis may be the most famous member thus far of the IU Class of 2000. But you probably remember the size of his former pants more than his name.

As the spokesman for Subway, Fogle was the centerpiece of an ad campaign singing Subway’s low-fat praises. The 22-year-old student ate only a turkey sub and chips, and a veggie sub every day for a year, shedding 245 pounds from his 465-pound frame. Now th e business administration major, after a whirlwind media blitz that took him to appearances on Oprah and The Today Show, is hard at work on what he considers his “real job:” he’s a pricing analyst at American Trans Air in Indianapolis. “It’s still a stran ge feeling for total strangers to know who you are,” he said. “This doesn’t just happen in Bloomington or Indy…it has happened to me wherever I go—Florida, Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco and even Hawaii. I would say being recognized is the biggest ch ange in my life.”
