Transitions at IU South Bend

· Dr. Rudolph Navari, who has led the Walther Cancer Research Center at the University of Notre Dame, is now directing the IU School of Medicine at South Bend. He became the assistant dean of IUSM and director of the South Bend center on July 1. He had served as the associate dean of the College of Science at Notre Dame since 2000

· For the first time in its history, IU South Bend has a full-time men's basketball coach for the Titans. Micah Shrewsberry was formerly the director of basketball operations for Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. Jim Parent served as a part-time head coach for the men's team the past three seasons. "Athletics and student life are important at IU South Bend," said IU South Bend Chancellor Una Mae Reck. "A full-time coach is an important step in the growth of our athletics program."

· Jacqueline Neuman is the new director of extended learning services. She was formerly director of continuing education at Athens (Ga.) Technical College and managed credited and non-credited programming for the multi-campus institution.

· Linda Fritschner has been named associate vice chancellor for academic affairs. She has been serving in that role since 2000. She came to the campus as an assistant professor of sociology in 1980 and became a full professor in 1996. She also has served as interim director of general studies, chancellor's fellow and chair of sociology from 1989 to 1997.
