Kokomo campus launches 60th anniversary celebration

IU President Adam Herbert kicked off anniversary festivities on the IU Kokomo campus with a barbeque for all students, alumni, faculty and staff, along with their families, on Aug. 25 and a special 60th anniversary show opened at the IU Kokomo Art Gallery on Aug. 26. (See below for details.)

Throughout the academic year, IU Kokomo’s 60th anniversary will be celebrated with two special programs—the showing of six Academy Award-winning movies, representing the six decades of IU Kokomo’s existence, and a “Last Lectures” series by current and past IU Kokomo faculty.

Faculty lecturers were posed the question: “If you could only give one last lecture, what words of wisdom would you want to leave with your students.” Last Lectures begin Wednesday, Sept. 21, with Allen Maxwell, professor emeritus of political science, whose lecture title is “You Can Make a Difference.” The lecture starts at 6 p.m. at Kelley House, and those wishing to attend are asked to call 765-455-9411 or E-mail alumni@iuk.edu to make reservations.

Stefanie Lorenz, graphic designer for the IU Kokomo Office of Communications and Marketing, created the 60th anniversary logo—a stylized drawing of the Wellhouse. This small structure has been part of IU Kokomo’s history through most of it six decades and at two campus locations.

This fall, all IU Kokomo faculty and staff members will receive specially commissioned 60th anniversary lapel pins bearing the logo. The symbol also appears on apparel, coffee mugs and other memorabilia available through the IU Kokomo Bookstore.

60th Anniversary Exhibition

The IU Kokomo Art Gallery has launched its 10th year of operation with a bow to the campus’ 60 years. Running through Sept. 20, the IU Kokomo 60th Anniversary Exhibition is a display of 60 original works donated by regional professional artists. The works will be sold for $100 each; proceeds will benefit the gallery.
