| Is
your boss making you sick? |
Is your boss making you sick? IPFW’s Brad Gilbreath,
assistant professor of organizational leadership and supervision,
recently conducted research asking that very question
to Fort Wayne workers.
Not surprisingly, the answer is: could be.
Gilbreath’s research indicates that employees who
rate their supervisor’s behavior positively are
significantly more likely to report better psychological
health. Employees who rate their supervisor’s behavior
negatively, on the other hand, are significantly more
likely to report experiencing psychiatric disturbance.
More simply put: people with better bosses are also more
likely to have better mental health.
According to Gilbreath, “employers need to understand
that supervisor behavior is an important influence on
employee well-being and take this into account when choosing,
training and evaluating supervisors.”
