| Muslim
social scientists to meet Sept. 26-28
|
The Muslim presence in “the West” is thought
to be a new, and to some, a troubling phenomenon. But
what does the rapidly growing Western Muslim community
really imply? What are the tensions between being a Muslim
and being a Westerner? What impact can Muslims have on
Western societies and policies?
The 32nd Association of Muslim Social Scientists will
address these issues on the IU Bloomington campus Friday
through Sunday, Sept. 26-28, with the theme “East
Meets West: Understanding the Muslim Presence in Europe
and North America.”
Organizers are hoping that presenters will bring innovative
ideas that will be a benefit not only to academia, but
also to those activists and policymakers seeking to better
the lives of Muslims in the West and around the globe.
