The IU Bloomington campus will be the site of the 2004 Indiana Student Affairs Association (ISAA) conference. Dubbed the “Annual Drive-in Conference,” it will take place on Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Indiana Memorial Union. The title of this year’s meeting is “Shaping Up Student Affairs through Strength, Flexibility and Endurance.”

Founded in 1949 as the Indiana College Personnel Association, the organization ceased operations in 1992, and for nine years, no formal meeting of Indiana student affairs professionals existed. In 2002, the ISAA was formed with the simple goal of bringing together student affairs professions from across the state once a year for a fall meeting. The meeting gives individuals an opportunity for professional development, to discuss and learn about trends in higher education and student development especially as it pertains to our state, and to increase collaboration and innovation of new approaches to student services and learning through networking and focus groups. In addition to student affairs professionals, the conference welcomes students on all IU campuses and any other college or university in Indiana.

“The importance of the meeting is the networking that occurs because the ISAA meeting is the only time each year when staff from a broad range of student affairs offices from Indiana public and private colleges and universities meet to exchange ideas and discuss current topics of concern,” said Richard McKaig, current president of ISAA and dean of students at IUB. “This year, we are pleased to have Myra Morgan as our keynote speaker.

“Myra is an IU graduate and past president of the American College Personnel Association,” he said.

As in previous years, this year’s conference was planned by a committee composed of individuals drawn from campuses around the state. Each year, a different Hoosier institution of higher learning plays host to the event. The 2005 conference will be hosted by Franklin College.
