Composer Erich Stem has joined the Department of Music
and is teaching music theory and composition. Stem has enjoyed
a promising career that includes more than 40 performances of
his music nationwide and awards from various American arts groups
such as Meet the Composer, American Music Center and the American
Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His career spans
orchestral and chamber music; his work has been performed by such
prestigious groups as the Minnesota Orchestra, the Richmond (Va.)
Symphony, Washington D.C.’s Opus 3 trio and the Sunrise Quartet.
His music can also be heard on two CD releases from Living Artist
Recordings, Places Not Remote and Semantemes.
Three faculty members have received Kentuckiana Metroversity
Awards for Instructional Development. They are Donna Bowles,
nursing, for “Exploring End-of-Life Issues;” Kathryn Jackson,
special education, for “Demystifying Case Conference: Persona
Dolls Come Alive;” and William Sweigart, English, for “Writing
for Teachers.” Proposals from member schools are judged on methodology,
originality, the potential impact on students and on how the proposal
will advance education and learning.
