Not far from the IU Southeast campus in New Albany, the 13-day
bicentennial of the Meriwether Lewis and William Clark Expedition
has begun, with activities expected to draw some 50,000 visitors
to the Falls of the Ohio, Clarksville, Jeffersonville and Louisville.
Saturday (Oct. 18)
Forensic anthropologist Sharon Long, Re-creating Sgt. Charles Floyd, at 7 p.m., IU Southeast Ogle Cultural Center; call 812-944-7336 to make a free reservation. Floyd was, incidentally, the only member of the Corps of Discovery to have died during the expedition.
Tuesday (Oct. 21)
Stephanie Ambrose Tubbs, author of The Lewis and Clark
Companion, 6 p.m., IUS Ogle Cultural Center.
Wednesday (Oct. 22)
Calvin Grinnell, resource specialist for the Cultural Preservation Office of the Mandan Hidatsa and Arikara Nation, at 6 p.m., Library Building.
Thursday (Oct. 23)
Hal Stearns, chairperson of the Montana Lewis and Clark Commission, will portray Gen. William Clark at 6 p.m. at the Ogle Center.
Saturday, Oct. 25
Lewis and Clark Fanfare Premiere, featuring the Louisville Orchestra, Ogle Center.
