Emmert
| An expert in European Union (EU) law has been named to head the newly established center for international law programs at IU School of Law-Indianapolis.
Frank Emmert, a native of Germany, became the first director of the Center for International and Comparative Law this summer; the center is the new hub for the law school’s extensive international programs, including summer schools in China and France, human rights internships around the world and the new master of laws degree program for foreign attorneys.
Emmert comes to the IUPUI-based school from Concordia International University, Estonia, where he was dean of the law school and the Jean Monnet Professor of European Union law.
“He is a very good fit for us,” said Anthony Tarr, dean of the IU School of Law-Indianapolis, who said ties to the EU will be vital for future law graduates since it will be “one of the most significant trading and political entities in forthcoming decades. It will be very important for American students to have a better understanding of European institutions and laws.”
Emmert is editor of The Kluwer European Law Library, a new textbook series on aspects of EU law, released this past summer. He is founder and managing editor of the European Journal of Law Reform.
