Heather Harder is executive director of the Children’s Literacy Initiative at IU Northwest. Formed from a partnership between the “Shared Vision” initiative at IU Northwest and the Gary Post Tribune, the initiative will raise the awareness of the value of early intervention through literacy programs and resources to teachers, parents and children from birth to six years of age. Initiative offices are housed at the IU Northwest Child Care Center. Harder is involved in establishing training programs and workshops in literacy development in licensed child-care facilities. An emphasis also will be placed on conducting research that measures results and progress of programming.
