Herron School of Art Gallery 'Indy's Best'

By Julie Schaefer

Russick and Yatsko

The Herron School of Art Gallery has received top billing in Indianapolis Monthly's "Best of Indy" competition. In the December issue, Lou Harry, senior arts editor, writes: "Because of its academic ties, the Herron Gallery is often thought to be simply a showplace for student and faculty work. It is that, to be sure (a student show is on exhibit through Dec. 15), but it's also home to the liveliest gallery programming in town. Director David Russick deftly mixes group shows and solo showcases, and local with national talent, and he also mixes the media (the upcoming Wendy Maruyama exhibit focuses on furniture making). Attending an opening here, surrounded by the school's vibrant tribe of students, brings hope for Indy's artistic future." Russick, an assistant professor, is assisted in the gallery by Sandy Yatsko, a Herron grad.
