IUB piano student receives ALEX

Elizabeth Eckert, a piano student at the IU School of Music in Bloomington, has received an ALEX award for performing arts. The award, presented by the National Alliance for Excellence, brings Eckert a $1,000 scholarship, an appearance at Carnegie Hall and the opportunity to meet with any individual in America who has inspired her. Eckert chose Michael Tilson Thomas, conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, who will present the prize later this year. For more on the award and its sponsoring organization, go to:
