Keeping recreation and amateur sports safe

Bruce Hronek, professor in IU’s Department of Recreation on the Bloomington campus, has lectured all over the world on playground safety, weather-related liability, and the relationship of risk management to recreation and sports. He says that an injury through amateur sports or a recreation program once would have been considered frivolous by the courts. But times have changed. Next spring, under the sponsorship of the Hong Kong Olympic Committee, Hronek will lend his expertise to helping China prepare for the 2008 Olympics. His lectures will include the rights of athletes, drug testing standards and the risk level athletes assume by their participation in sports.
