| Computer programmers and librarians at the IUB Libraries are working feverishly to prepare for the January 2001 migration of its on-line catalog to the Web and are inviting IU students and faculty to test a prototype.
At the first of the new year, the IU Libraries’ on-line catalog, IUCAT, will have a new graphic interface and many new features. Currently IUCAT is only available in a text-based format.
The Web-based IUCAT will feature easy-to-use navigation, powerful search capabilities, links to indexes and electronic journals, and the ability to follow links within the catalog to find additional books and other materials. The resources of libraries on all IU campuses will be searchable within one catalog, and searches may be limited to a single library. It will be easy to print, download, or E-mail information from IUCAT, which was launched a decade ago.
IU students and faculty can now try a version containing 115,000 test records. The catalog’s 5.5 million actual records will go on line next month.
