No matter how hectic the opening days of a semester, keep a smile on your face. IU psychologists have determined that happy people tend to be more creative and choose creative activities strategically in the interest of maintaining or improving their moods.
Making history
The number of first-year students on the Bloomington campus will be the largest ever, average SAT scores are higher, the number of minority and international students in the freshman class has increased and the IU Class of 2012 includes one set of quadruplets. IU South Bend’s River Cross Apartments and IU Southeast’s Orchard, Grove, Woodland, Meadow and Forest Lodges were open for the first time to residential students last week, providing a new dimension to the two campuses’ vitality. We’ll have interviews with each of the campuses’ residence directors in the next edition of IU Home Pages, online Sept. 12.
Hoosier cancer care ‘premier’
The new $150 million patient care facility at the IU Simon Cancer Center opened to in-patients this week on the IUPUI campus, out-patient care begins Sept. 2 and first surgeries begin the next day. View pictures from the Aug. 21 dedication.
