IU Kokomo’s new handbell choir is the brainchild of June Beck, a lecturer
in music and director of the IU Kokomo Singers. The two groups appeared
in concert Dec. 15 at Kresge Auditorium. Beck (above, right) directs
the bell choir. Pictured are Patti Wiegman and IU Kokomo student Juan
Dillard, whose major musical pursuit is the drums. He plays for Kokomo
area bands, including Moonbeam Gambler and the Steam Shovels.

Precision is essential to a handbell choir, which uses 47 tin and copper bells that cover a three and one-half octave range. The choir practices each Monday evening and Beck is hoping to recruit more members from the campus and surrounding community
