IU helping state child support system convert to paperless payment distribution

A pilot project to convert the state’s child support system to an electronic format, thus eliminating paper checks and mailing costs, is being funded through a $327,500 federal grant.

Maureen Pirog, director of the IU Institute for Family and Social Responsibility, along with School of Public and Environmental Affairs colleague Craig Johnson, will head an evaluation team at Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville sites of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.

The team will be examining the overall satisfaction of child support recipients with the electronic distribution system and issues related to electronic distribution methods, such as changes in banking practices and personal sense of security in receiving child support electronically.
