|Hello, IU community. Now that autumn is falling into place for us all on the IU campuses, I’d like to invite each of you—whether you are an employee, a parent of a student, an alumna from IU East, or a visiting scholar from Uzbekistan, you name it—to make use of the space you are presently reading.
This space is up for grabs, both online and in newsprint, and we’re hoping to hear from those of you who may wish to tackle an issue that directly or tangentially affects higher education and/or the workplace we 17,000 IU employees have in common. Perhaps you have a counter view to something you may read in these pages. Our guidelines for submissions appear at the bottom of this column.
We’re also re-invigorating our "Knowledge Transfer"
column. We are asking that you send E-mails to IU Home Pages
telling us about problems and solutions in the delivery of services
instituted by your department, school or campus that might be of
value to others. We’ll be looking at strategies and innovations
from other institutions of higher education as well.
We also invite you to submit contributions to a new online feature,
a digital image album you’ll see in our first October edition. With
so many digital cameras on the campuses, we’ve decided to open up
some cyberspace to share images of individuals or groups in their
IU work environments. Send digital shots (or photographs, if you’re
using a conventional camera) of faculty or staff working with students,
employees singled out for exemplary mention, a special award presentation
or profile shots of people in their various campus endeavors.
Summarize your column idea and the points you intend to make and
develop into a 300-400 word column. Viewpoint is open to faculty,
staff, students, parents or community members and is intended to
express the opinions of individuals, not special interest groups.
The IU Home Pages Executive Board reserves the right to edit or
reject any submitted copy. To submit your idea for Viewpoint, contact
IU Home Pages editor Jayne Spencer by E-mail (email@example.com),
Fax (812-855-7002) or campus or U.S. Mail (IU Home Pages,
