Workshop in November to focus on Indiana’s IT security concerns
By Diane Brown
A federal attorney, a FBI special agent and a computer systems researcher, all experts in computer systems security and cybercrime, will be keynote speakers for a day-long conference at IUPUI next month.

The conference, "Secure Indiana: Protecting Indiana's IT Future" will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at University Conference Center Auditorium, 850 W. Michigan St., Indianapolis.

Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI will also spotlight the school's new IT security certificate program during the conference expected to attract top-level information systems managers from private businesses, governmental agencies and non-profits across the state. The event is co-sponsored by Purdue University and the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security.

Both the new Network Security Certificate Program at IUPUI and the Secure Indiana conference are being offered to address issues of computer security, organizers say.

According to a 2004 Computer Security Institute/FBI Computer Crime and Security Survey Institute, 269 respondents lost $141.5 million due to breaches in computer security, including $55.05 million due to virus attacks, $7.7 million to financial fraud and $958,000 to Web defacement.

Conference fee is $95. For more information and to register, go to this Web site:
