Two new IUPUI professors, an international scholar on Native American issues and an internationally known exhibition design specialist for museums and nature centers, will contribute their expertise to ongoing programming at local museums.
The professors are the first of four faculty members who are to hold joint university-museum appointments under the Public Scholars of Civic Engagement initiative at IUPUI.
Based in the museum studies program, which is part of the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI, the Public Scholars program will also engage campus students in community projects at area museums and cultural organizations.
Larry Zimmerman will represent native Americans in the program. His appointment is with the anthropology and museum studies programs on campus, as well as the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art.
Matthew Groshek will be concerned with exhibit planning and design, holding a joint appointment with museum studies and the Herron School of Art and Design Visual Communication Department. Groshek will work with a variety of civic and cultural organizations to develop exhibits and other projects.
