Lenses and Loops at the SoFA Gallery in Bloomington is featuring the work of IU School of Fine Arts alumnus and IU Northwest fine arts professor Neil Goodman, through Nov. 19.

Goodman’s work is intimately linked to the northwest Indiana region where he has lived and worked for most of his life. The SoFA is featuring several of his large-scale fiberglass sculptures and bronze objects.

Closer to home, in an area between the Savannah Center and Moraine Student Center on the IU Northwest campus, a soon-to-be installed Shadows and Echoes Sculpture Garden, with 10 large-scale bronze sculptures set among native grasses and flowers will pay tribute to the region’s industrial and ecological heritage. Goodman has been creating and building the sculptures while landscape architect Cynthia Owen-Bergland has designed the garden portion of the project.

“This is my research. This is what I do,” Goodman said. “This is probably my most interesting body of public work. I get the opportunity to do a really interesting public sculpture project and the students get an opportunity to see what sculpture means in terms of everyday life.”
