The Association for American University Presses, of which the IU Press is a member, has launched a new online resource, “Books for Understanding,” that categorizes the hundreds of university press books in print that relate to the events of Sept. 11 and their aftermath. “Books For Understanding” lists more than 500 books from 60 university presses on nine broad themes. Included among the IU Press offerings are a second edition The Terrorist Trap: America’s Experience with Terrorism, by Jeffrey Simon, which will soon be out in hard and paper covers. The idea for “Books for Understanding” was sparked by Sanford Thatcher, director of the Pennsylvania State University Press, who noticed a surge of requests for two backlist titles on terrorism. He approached the AAUP with a request to compile a field-wide listing for people looking for information and insight.
