Roger's welcome
As the school year begins in earnest, I want to thank each of you for your contribution to OEM and Indiana University. Over the past several months, many of you have been involved with the final recruitment touches on the most academically talented and diverse freshman class in the history of Indiana University. Further, several OEM team members helped deliver the largest number of international freshmen in our campus history. This accomplishment was the result of many people's talents---whether it was team members in the research units of OEM, or the talented folks in the Scholarship office, or all the members of our Admissions office, the hard work of many led to tremendous results.
Throughout June, July, and August, team members in FYE led an orientation program to introduce our newest students to IU. Key OEM team members from the Registrar's office assisted in the registration of all these new students, and folks from OSFA provided financial guidance. The Registrar's office spent the summer reporting on enrollment and registration numbers and completing the significant task of migrating the "Kelley Direct" program to Bloomington. Our colleagues in OSFA had the most challenging summer in recent memory as families and students came in record numbers to talk about financial aid. With 3,200 phone calls a day and hundreds of e-mails, OSFA has never had a busier summer than the summer of 2009. The number of accomplishments I could cite in this newsletter are never-ending---so instead, let me simply say thank you. A day rarely passes when I am not reminded of the talented team we have in OEM. So, if no one else says this to you today, let me, "thank you for your contribution to Enrollment Management and Indiana University." Have a great fall semester!

Introducing OEM's Newest Office - The Office of Interactive Communication
In the summer of 2008, David Johnson chaired an OEM task force charged with examining electronic communications and messaging. In December 2008, the task force recommended, among other topics, collaboration among OEM web related staff, the designation of a central person or team to coordinate our communications and messages, and the expansion of our web presence and online interactions and services.
To that end, we are pleased to announce OEM now has an Office of Interactive Communication. Laura Wisley has been promoted, and now serves as the Director of the office. She is joined by team members Michael Fatten and Mazias de Oliveira. Their good work with the OEM Customer Relationship Management solution has been valuable in moving OEM forward in our communications efforts, and their expertise will be valuable as we engage in new initiatives in the Web 2.0 environment (Blogs, Twitter, Facebook, virtual tours, video solutions and other emerging technologies).
Progressively Creating New Services and Programs

OEM Staff Spotlight
In each edition, we will spotlight various individuals from within our organization. The purpose is not only to celebrate their good work, but also to help us become better acquainted with our colleagues in OEM.
Dot Kemp, Records Service Coordinator - Office of the Registrar
Dot Kemp began her work in the Office of the Registrar 24 years ago. Dot started her Registrar career as a Service Representative and has advanced to the position of Record Services Supervisor. During her Registrar tenure she has seen incredible change in how students register, drop and add, request transcripts, and much more. Never one to become complacent, Dot has played an instrumental role in introducing a whole suite of electronic services that have been developed in recent years. Perhaps even more impressive is that she has maintained her unrelenting commitment to providing the highest level of service to students, faculty, and staff as these significant changes were implemented. Dot has been married to her husband Rick for 34 years, is the mother of a son and daughter, and a very proud grandmother of two.
Joyce Lessig, Credentials Analyst Supervisor- Office of Admissions
Joyce has been with the Office of Admissions for over 39 years. She began as a work study student during her junior year of college, and she is still here. Joyce has served in nearly all the clerical positions in the office and is now the Credentials Analyst Supervisor. While working in the office, Joyce finished her BS in Art Education, a MS in Counseling and Counselor Education and was the very first recipient of the Martial Arts Certificate given through the Kinesiology Department in HPER. For the last dozen years or so, she has served on the Standing Committee on Residence (SCOR) which hears student appeals from all IU campuses. She has also held part-time jobs in retail at Ayres and Borders, and worked at the YMCA's front desk for nearly ten years.
Joyce also did a stint as an Associate Instructor teaching HPER classes in Tae Kwon Do and Self-Defense (mainly Hap Ki Do). Joyce enjoys her loving family, reading mysteries and watching "Bones" and HGTV. She is a member of the Phi Chapter of Omega Phi Tau Sorority and the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.
Ron McFall, Associate Director - Office of Scholarships
Ron McFall joined the Office of Enrollment Management in 2007 as Associate Director in the Office of Scholarships. He has been involved in the development and expansion of several OEM recruitment initiatives, including the Herbert Presidential Scholars Program, COMPASS scholarship system, and endowed scholarship awarding process. Ron earned both his undergraduate degree in Marketing from the Kelley School of Business and his M.S. in Higher Education and Student Affairs at IU. His experience includes strategic marketing and brand development, recruitment initiatives for high-ability students, and scholarship program administration. Ron is married to his wife Staci McFall, who is a staff member in the School of Informatics. Ron enjoys spending time with Staci and their golden retriever named Buster.
Bridgett Milner, Associate Director - Enrollment Planning and Research
Bridgett Milner joined OEM as the Assistant Director of Enrollment Planning and Research in May 2007, after completing her Ph.D. in Psychology at IUB. During her graduate study, Bridgett minored in Statistics, a degree she uses daily within her role in OEM. Bridgett performs research and analyzes data to support the recruitment of incoming beginners. Prior to working for OEM, Bridgett held research and teaching positions within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. She received her BA in Psychology from St. Mary's College of Maryland. Bridgett is the proud mom of a 15 month old boy who attends daycare here at IU. Her hobbies include reading, watching live music (her husband is in a band), and spending time with her family.
Dan Murphy, Assistant Director - First Year Experience Programs
Dan Murphy is the newest member of the Office of First Year Experience Programs. He joined the office as an Assistant Director in May. Dan works primarily with the recruitment, selection and training of the Student Orientation Leaders, as well as program design and implementation. Dan joined the team from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia where he worked in the Office of Orientation. Dan's previous experience includes work in orientation programs, residence life, admissions, fraternity and sorority life and leadership development programs. Dan participated in the Orientation Professionals Institute offered by the National Orientation Directors Association (NODA) and then served as the Virginia State Coordinator within the Association. Dan enjoys photography, travel and music.
Joe Wilkerson, Computer Network and Program Analyst - Office of Student Financial Assistance
Joe Wilkerson joined OSFA as a Computer Network and Program Analyst in May 2009. He works primarily with computer administration and technical support, but is also involved in various projects with the financial aid systems team. Joe received his BS in Informatics and he is now currently pursuing a Master's degree in Human Computer Interaction Design, both from the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing. Joe and a team of collaborators were nominated to attend and present at the leading conference on Computer Human Interaction (CHI) in Boston, MA. His team focused on using technology to promote sustainable behavior in the usage of home electronics. The project was selected as one of the four finalists out of hundreds of competing international teams.
Joe is a member of GISA, the Graduate Informatics Student Association. He enjoys hiking, camping and backpacking, and he recently started to get into photography as a side hobby. Joe enjoys snow skiing and wishes there were mountains somewhere closer to Indiana.
