In the summer of 2007, the Faculty and Staff for Student Excellence Mentoring Program and the Office of Strategic Mentoring were combined into one organization, the new Office of Mentoring Services and Leadership Development.
Building on the success of both programs, the MSLD makes available a variety of mentoring services and initiatives to support student success, with special emphasis in working on behalf of students from under-represented and/or under-served populations. Mentoring efforts of the MSLD represent a comprehensive and developmental approach to supporting the personal, academic, social, cultural, leadership, and professional development of students. And, as with the FASE and OSM Programs, the new Office retains commitment to diversity, equity, and excellence as an inseparable whole and as a defining characteristic of vibrant and growing learning communities.
Bold in its vision, comprehensive in its mission, and practical in its goals, the MSLD represents one of the many Indiana University initiatives to support diversity within a caring and supportive community through which students realize their full potential. MSLD mentoring initiatives strive to bring the campus into closer, more collaborative working relationship to enhance support of students as they create personal and professional life paths through their educational experience. The result is a stronger campus community, students better prepared for life and work in a diverse and global society, and a common future founded in achievement and success for all.
