Energy Transfer
At the molecular level, energy can be transferred from one solid (or liquid or gas) to another by means of collisions between molecules. Fast-moving (hot) molecules bump into slow-moving (cold) molecules, which speeds up the slow molecule (warms it up), and slows down the fast molecule (cools it down).
