The Plates DO Move
GPS measurements of plate motions, presented as vectors relative to Antarctica, in cm/year. To assess the
movement of one plate relative to another (i.e. to see Baja California ripping away from North America), it is
necessary to compare vectors to each other, rather than to Antarctica. Note that the apparent circular motion
of North America and of Asia is an artifact of representing a spherical earth as a flat projection.
