OUT exists to promote the welfare of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (GLBT) students at Indiana University and support awareness of the GLBT community at large, in Bloomington. This is accomplished by providing the following:

• Information and education for the GLBT community
• Support and referral for GLBT students
• Ivolvement in GLBT causes
• Our exsistence as a social organization for the GLBT community
  

In addition to weekly meetings, regular OUT events include such things as Pride Week, Halloween Dance, the Miss Gay IU Pageant, and more recently Hoosier Daddy. OUT also hosts conferences, brings speakers/performers to IU, and many other interesting GLBT activities.

Over the years, OUT has taken the lead on many controversial campus topics, such as:

The inclusion of sexual orientation in the University's non-discrimination clause, the creation of the GLBT Support Services Office, and advocating for domestic partnerships' health insurance/benefits and living arrangements in campus housing.

OUT has no membership fees or dues.

Anyone regardless of race, color, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual identity, sexual preference, age, religion, national origin, ethnic origin, or disability is welcome to join.

OUT is governed by an executive board consisting of elected and appointed OUT officials:

There are also numerous appointed positions within the organization. The philosophy of the group is to be as inclusive as possible. No one will be turned away from playing an active role in the planning and implementation of OUT events.
