PROGRAM ORGANIZATION
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
- Study the fundamental political, social and cultural institutions of the ancient Greek polis of Athens/Attica through personal examination of its material remains in the context of the modern city
- 4 IU credits in Classical Studies C396, "Discovering a Greek Polis: Ancient Athens on site" see syllabus.
- Instruction in English by Robert Sutton, Professor and Coordinator of Classical Studies, IUPUI
- Excursions to Delphi, Piraeus, Eleusis, and major sites in the Attic countryside, including Marathon, Brauron, and Sounion
- Visits to the National Archaeological Museum and the museums of the Acropolis, Agora, and the Kerameikos
- Optional companion program on the island of Paros with focus on anthropology/service
learning, see Paros, for a broader
examination of Greece. Discount of $200 for students who enroll in more
than one CYA summer course.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
ELIGIBILITY
You may apply if you
- are a student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal
academic progress,
- are in at least your second full-time semester of college, and
- have approximately a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures
of the Office of Overseas Study.
Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose,
and appropriateness of match between program and applicant.
Students on disciplinary probation during program period are not eligible.
ESTIMATED 2009 COSTS
- Fee paid to IU: $310 (includes insurance)
- CYA fee: $2,700
(includes tuition, room, required field trips)
- Additional meals: $600
Initial prepayment of $300 due upon acceptance.

FINANCIAL AID
- IU scholarships, grants and loans applicable to program costs, only if you are enrolled in 6 credits in IU summer sessions, with some exceptions. Please carefully check these exceptions before you commit to a program.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

IU committee screens applications for CYA final approval. Electronic notification of
