PROGRAM ORGANIZATION
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
- Advanced Liberal Arts program track*
- All courses taught in Spanish
- 15 credit hours
- 3 IU credits for 3 week intensive academic writing & research in Spanish
course
- 3 IU credits for CIEE culture course -OR- internship
- 9 IU credits in three direct enrollment Universidad de Barcelona courses

The CIEE Advanced Liberal Arts program in Barcelona is designed for students with advanced Spanish language skills. This program requires students to take all courses in Spanish, the majority in regular university classes with Spanish professors and native Spanish speakers. Students are not permitted to take classes in English.
HOUSING
- Spanish homes (one student per
home) or in a student residence with other Spanish or international students
(limited availability)
ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
ELIGIBILITY
You may apply if you
- are a student at any IU campus who is making normal academic
progress,
- are in at least your third full-time semester of college,
- have taken or are enrolled in at least two 300-level Spanish courses, and
- have approximately a 3.0 cumulative GPA and have a B average in Spanish.
Students that have not completed or are enrolled in at least two 300-level Spanish courses should consider other Programs in Spanish appropriate for their language level.
Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of the Office of Overseas Study.
Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose,
and appropriateness of match between program and applicant.
Students on disciplinary probation during program period are not eligible.
ESTIMATED SPRING 2010 COSTS
- Fee paid to IU: $640
- Fee paid to CIEE: $14,725*
(tuition,
housing, two meals per day in the homestay option, orientation, cultural
activities, field trips to locations, insurance)
Initial prepayment of $500 due October 26 for spring; March for fall
- Additional meals: $985

- IU scholarships, grants and loans applicable to program costs with some
exceptions. Please
carefully check these exceptions before you commit to a program.

IU committee screens applications for CIEE final approval. Notification of
application status sent electronically within four weeks of application deadline.
