PROGRAM ORGANIZATION

IES Center is located in the heart of downtown Barcelona, near Plaza Catalunya
- 400 U.S. students
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
- Orientation and intensive Spanish
- 50 courses in language, humanities, social sciences, and business taught in English for IES students only
- Required enrollment at local institutions (access based on language
exam)
- Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Castillian, Catalan or English in specific departments, including
Business Management and Administration, Political Science, Humanities, Audio-Visual Communication, Translation and Interpretation, Journalism, Telecommunication, and Computer Science
- Universitat Ramon Llull (URL) and Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB)
joint courses in English and Spanish with IES and local students

Universitat de Barcelona (UB)
- Hispanic Studies (Estudios Hispanicos) at UPF in beginning, intermediate or advanced Spanish
- Unpaid internship in business and social agencies
Course load
- Program requires enrollment in Spanish language course and combination of
IES center courses AND either a university course or internship
- 16 IU credits in a combination of IES courses and university courses
- 3-credit internship option
ELIGIBILITY
You may apply if you
- are a student at any IU campus who is making normal academic
progress,
- are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college,
- have taken or are enrolled in first year Spanish and
- have approximately a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a B average in Spanish.
Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures
of the Office of Overseas Study.
Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose,
and appropriateness of match between program and applicant.
Students on disciplinary probation during program period are not eligible.
*Business majors must be enrolled in or have completed (or will complete) E201, E202 and the Business Integrative Core (or equivalent coursework at an IU campus outside Bloomington).
*Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP) students must have completed BUS K201, and ECON E201 and E202
HOUSING
- Spanish homes or student apartments
ESTIMATED SPRING 2008 COSTS
- Fee paid to IU: $650
- Fee paid to IES: $13,725*
(tuition, health insurance, room and some meals)
- Other meals: $1,500
Initial prepayment of $500 due Oct. 29 for spring; Mar. 25 for fall..
Airfare, personal expenses and vacation travel additional.
* Special Discounted IES fee for IU students
FINANCIAL AID

Fall 2008: February 25, 2008
IU committee screens applications for IES final approval. Notification of
application status sent electronically within
four weeks of application deadline.
