ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Contemporary Issues Program takes in-depth look at Chinese history, ethnicities, contemporary literature and film, and international relations through a series of advanced seminars
Initial period of Intensive Chinese language training, followed by daily language studies through the end of the semester
IES Area Studies Course taught in English by scholars in anthropology/sociology, environmental studies, or political economy
Block schedule will include orientation period, intensive language study, a 2-credit intensive “Introduction to China” seminar, and three 3-credit area studies courses

ELIGIBILITY

You may apply if you

are a student admitted to the IU Hutton Honors College who is making normal academic progress,
are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college, and
have approximately a 3.3 cumulative GPA.

No Chinese language required.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of the Office of Overseas Study. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are not eligible.

ESTIMATED SPRING 2008 COSTS

Fee paid to IU: $650
Fee paid to IES: $10,230^* (tuition, health insurance, room and some meals)
Other meals: $1,250
Initial prepayment of $500 due October 29 for spring.

Airfare, personal expenses and vacation travel additional.
* Special Discounted IES fee for IU students
