PROGRAM ORGANIZATION

ACADEMIC PROGRAM
- 3 IU credits (BIOL-L 433, Tropical Biology)
- Program led by IU Professors Bill Ruf and Charles Beeker
- Hiking, visiting caves and scuba diving in the Washington Slagbaai Park in the northwest
part of the island
- Boat dives on Klein Bonaire, day and night dives to monitor coral
reefs, visit to Bonaire Marine Park headquarters, snorkeling in Lac Bay, visit to and
kayaking in the Mangrove Center
- Emphasis placed on hands-on field observation of ecological processes,
both on land and underwater, as well as human-nature interactions and their application
to the conservation of natural and cultural resources
HOUSING
- Small lodge with shared baths and kitchen
ELIGIBILITY
You may apply if you
- are a student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal
academic progress,
- are in at least your third full-time semester of college (priority given to upperclassmen),
- have completed one year of biology or one semester of environmental science or equivalent,
- are willing to live and travel harmoniously with group in
the field,
- are able to engage in strenuous physical activity, have good swimming skills
and are (or will be) certified to scuba dive
(spring HPER class available as well as private classes available;
open water dives can be completed during program), and
- have approximately a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

of the Office of Overseas Study.
Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of
purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant.
Students on disciplinary probation during program period are not eligible.

Initial payment of $500 due two weeks after acceptance.
