KYRGYZSTAN
Summer Archaeological Field School in Kyrgyzstan

KYRGYZSTAN
- Spectacular, unspoiled alpine scenery

TENTATIVE DATES
PROGRAM ORGANIZATION
- Predeparture orientation in Bloomington
- One week of class meetings at IUB or online preceding departure
- 2-week program; students from the U.S. and Kyrgystan will be partnered
- 10 days of mapping and excavation in Koch Kor Valley
- Professor Anne Pyburn, Resident Director
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
- 3 IU credits applicable to anthropology major or minor
- Field Work in Archaeology (ANTH-P 405)
ELIGIBILITY
You may apply if you
- are a degree candidate at any U.S. college or university who is making normal
academic progress,
- are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college,
- are willing to engage in strenuous activity and share rustic field accommodations without amenities, and
- have approximately a 3.0 out of 4.0 cumulative GPA.
Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of the Office of Overseas Study.
Selection based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and match between program and applicant's academic needs.
Students on disciplinary probation during program period are not eligible.
HOUSING
- Apartments in Bishkek; tents during archaeological field work
- Meals on-campus and at restaurants; meals prepared by camp cook
ESTIMATED COSTS
- Fees paid to IU: (tuition, excursions, housing, most meals, health
insurance)
Undergraduates:
- Indiana resident $1,637
- Nonresident $2,800
Initial payment of $500 due two weeks after acceptance.
Graduate Students: Contact Overseas Study for fee information
International airfare and vacation travel additional.
SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID
- IU scholarships, grants and loans applicable to program costs with some exceptions. Please carefully check these exceptions before you commit to a program.
