PROGRAM ORGANIZATION
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
- Experientially-based practical program with educational field trips
- 8 IU credits for 2 courses
- Seminar on Health, Nutrition, and Related Environmental Issues of the Latin American and Caribbean Region
with required individual or partnered research (5 credits, HPER H445)
- Intensive Spanish Language (3 credits, level assigned by placement test after program)
HOUSING
- Room and meals with Spanish-speaking Dominican family
ELIGIBILITY
You may apply if you
- have a serious interest in health and nutrition as demonstrated through prior course selection, job experience, or other academic or non-academic activities,
- are a degree candidate at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress,
- have completed two semesters of college-level Spanish before the program, and
- have approximately a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures
of the Office of Overseas Study.
Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose,
and appropriateness of match between program and applicant.
Students on disciplinary probation during program period are not eligible.
An IU committee screens applications for CIC final approval.
ESTIMATED 2008 COSTS
- Fee paid to IU: $248
(includes insurance)
- Fee paid to CIC: $4,856
(tuition, lodging, meals except for weekday lunches, excursions)
Initial prepayment of $200 due upon acceptance.
- Weekday lunches $150
- Airfare $675 (from Miami)
- Personal expenses and vacation travel additional
FINANCIAL AID
- Overseas Study Scholarships, including Minority Scholarships and Scholarships for Students from
IU campuses other than Bloomington.
- IU scholarships, grants and loans applicable to
program costs with some
exceptions.

- The CIC awards a limited number of small scholarships based on need and academic record to full-time students in good standing at CIC institutions. Scholarship applications are included in the program application packet.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
