PROGRAM ORGANIZATION
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
- IES "Language & Area Studies" and "Music" programs*
- Area studies courses in culture studies, European history, art history, literature, political science, psychology,
finance, marketing, management, law, business economics, international business, etc. taught in English or German for IES students only
- Private classes with professional musicians and faculty of Vienna
Conservatory of Music or Vienna Universität für Musik
- Option for students with advanced language to enroll in courses at University of Vienna
- Optional unpaid internships in business, education, or public service
- Extensive field trips and cultural events

COURSE LOAD
Vienna Program
- 16 IU credits per semester (either Fall or Spring semester)
- German language course
- IES area studies courses (business majors must choose at least one
3-credit business course)
- Internship option
- Option of courses in German at local universit
- Music Program*
- 17 IU credits for 5 IES courses (Fall semester ONLY)
- German language course (4 cr.)
- Music History (M401, 4 cr.)
- Applied music, private instructors (4 cr.)
- IES Music Workshop (2 cr.)
- IES area studies course or Internship (3 cr.)
- All credits applicable to bachelor's degree in Music
HOUSING
- Shared rooms with other American students in apartments, dormitories or private residences.
ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
ELIGIBILITY
You may apply if you
- are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress,
- are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college, and
- have approximately a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
*Music Program applicants must have completed Music T252 and T232 (with a
grade of C or better). Applicants must also have approval of their Music
department and pass upper divisional exam by the end of spring semester.
Performance majors also need approval of major performance study professor.
*Business majors must be enrolled in or have completed (or will complete)
E201, E202 and the Business Integrative Core (or equivalent coursework at an IU
campus outside Bloomington), and two semesters of German.
*Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP) students must have completed
BUS K201, ECON E201 and E202, and two semesters of German.
Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures
of the Office of Overseas Study.
Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose,
and appropriateness of match between program and applicant.
Students on disciplinary probation during program period are not eligible.
ESTIMATED FALL 2008 COSTS
- Fees paid to IU: $650
- Fees paid to IES: $14,620*
(includes tuition, housing, health insurance, orientation, non-optional field trips, and resident permit)
- Meals $2,090
Initial prepayment of $500 due Nov. 3 for spring; Mar. for fall.
