Overseas Study Recommendation Form — Student Instructions

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act Notice
Under federal law a student is entitled to read a letter of recommendation unless s/he signs a waiver giving up that access. The printed version of the Overseas Study Recommendation Form includes a waiver allowing you to relinquish your right to access.

Co-sponsored programs with Special Forms
Some co-sponsored programs have special reference or language assessment forms. In those cases, recommendations must be submitted on the forms provided. Read the application instructions carefully.


IU-Administered and other Co-sponsored programs
Direct faculty and professional references to https://www.indiana.edu/~overseas/forms/rec_form/rec.html. This page includes instructions for submitting recommendations by fax, mail or through an online form.

If you wish to provide your references with a paper form, take the following steps

  1. Print out the Adobe pdf file that contains the Overseas Study Recommendation Form and instructions.
  2. Write your name and the program to which you are applying at the top of the form.
  3. Note the option to waive your right to read the recommendation.
  4. Remember to tell your professors or professional references the deadline for your program.
