IU students earn prestigious study abroad scholarships
June 22, 2007IU Bloomington juniors, Brian Clampitt, Adam Molon, and
Guy Wulfing, have been awarded national scholarships for study abroad.
Clampitt, an East Asian Languages & Culture major with a Political Science
minor, received the National Security Education Program's David L. Boren
Undergraduate Scholarship in the amount of $16,000 to study at the University of
Nanzan in Nagoya, Japan. For the 2007-2008 application cycle, the Boren
Scholarship program received 729 applications and awarded 141 scholarships. The
NSEP Boren Scholarship program is sponsored by the U.S. Departments of Defense,
State, and Homeland Security.
Molon, a Business Finance, Economics, and Mathematics major, was awarded the
Freeman Award for Study in Asia, which offers a maximum of $7,000, to study at National
Taiwan University in Tapei, Taiwan. The Freeman Award for Study in Asia program
is sponsored by the Freeman Foundation.
Wulfing, an East Asian Languages & Culture major, was named a Benjamin A.
Gilman International Scholar and was granted $3,000 to study at the University
of Nanzan in Nagoya, Japan. During the 2007-2008 application cycle, the Gilman
scholarship program received 1,422 applications and awarded 420 scholarships.
The NSEP Boren
Scholarship, the Freeman Award, and the Gilman Scholarship are all administered
by the Institute for International Education. Online applications for spring
2008 and academic year 2008-2009 cycles of the awards will be available in
September, and the deadlines are mid-October 2007. For more information, visit
