Suspension Lifted for Programs in Israel for IU Students in Spring 2007
The Safety &
Responsibility Committee* of the Indiana University Overseas Study Advisory
Council has lifted the suspension of study for IU students in Israel as
of Spring 2007 at the following institutions: Hebrew University in
Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, Haifa University, Ben-Gurion University as
well as IU’s archaeological dig in Beth Shemesh. The Committee had
suspended study at these places on July 31, 2006 because of the war between
Israel and Lebanon.
Student participants of
the Hebrew University program, which is co-sponsored through Indiana
University, and their parents or guardians when applicable, will be required
to sign a special waiver that University Legal Counsel has designed for
programs that have been given special permission to operate in countries for
which there is a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning in effect. Student
participants of the other programs in Israel mentioned above will be
required to sign a special waiver that underlines the fact that they are
choosing to participate in a program, not offered through Indiana
University, that is in a country under a Travel Warning.
Indiana University reserves the right to
revisit the decision to allow the aforementioned programs to continue should
there be a change of conditions in Israel.
